OJOSEXO STUDIO is the creative practice of Los Angeles–based mixed-media artist Mike Fernandez. With an affinity for architecture, the Bauhaus movement, and postmodern art—and nearly a decade in New York working as a wardrobe stylist, hairstylist, and groomer—his background in fashion and design deeply informs his visual language.

Working across digital, Polaroid, and 35mm photography, Fernandez’s past work explored homoeroticism, bold typography, and the architectural mechanics of composition. His practice evolved from collaging his own photographs to incorporating found imagery from vintage advertising, bodybuilding magazines, and subcultural ephemera. Each collage becomes a layered visual narrative assembled by hand—an ongoing reconstruction of visual culture. His recent large-scale collage paintings expand this dialogue, reimagining cut paper through acrylics and plaster on canvas to blur the boundaries between print, painting, and assemblage.

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, and partly in San Francisco, Fernandez is the son of gay fathers—one of whom was a ceramic artist. Growing up surrounded by art and exhibiting alongside his father at age eleven, he developed an early fascination with shape, color, and form. After nearly a decade in New York’s commercial and editorial fashion world, his transition into photography and mixed media became a natural extension of his aesthetic exploration. Now based in Los Angeles, he continues to expand his investigation of image-making through OJOSEXO STUDIO.

A Fine Arts and Vidal Sassoon Academy alum, Fernandez’s work has been exhibited internationally and featured in publications. His practice exists at the intersection of fashion, photography, and contemporary art—a space where past and present media collide, remix, and take on new life.
