Untitled, 2023
Paper Collage, 50 x 40 cm

In the work of Angel Marcano, the juxtaposition of classical imagery with intricate perforations creates a striking dialogue between the past and the present. The meticulous cutouts disrupt the continuity of the original images, adding a layer of complexity and abstraction. Each piece simultaneously evokes a sense of destruction and creation, as historical figures and scenes are recontextualized through the artist's intervention.

Cult Studios, 2021
Paper Collage, 28 x 21.5 cm

My work has developed through the manipulation, experimentation, and transformation of various materials, especially wire and paper. I am always in search of creating volume, which I believe is due to my training as a sculptor. In collage, by appropriating classical images from art books and transforming them through perforations, I link one layer to another, seeking to distort the image and re-semanticize the harmony and possible meaning. I aim for them to appear as vestiges, as if a fungus had attacked the paper and the images contained within it.

Paper Collage, 25 x 20 cm

Laocoonte, 2023
Paper Collage, 33.5 x 33.5 cm

Collage gives me the possibility of transformation, it gives me a starting point, the images printed on the papers serve as a guide for the composition.

La Antigona, 2023
Paper Collage, 43 x 46 cm

The work starts with the search for the books I will use, going to antique stores, book shops and markets. I'm an introverted person so in my free time I'm usually at home collaging. When the piece is assembled, I put them up on the wall and observe them for months, there is always a spot where I can make it look more organic. If I have a show, after selecting the piece I will do the same again.
