Michael Hentz carefully arranges paper clippings to create surreal interactions. Employing a minimalist approach, the work is presented in a calm, clean, and meditative manner. His precise compositions invite the viewer to contemplate the relationship between humanity, nature, space, and time.

My work has always been therapy for me. Ever since I created my first collage I noticed how much it changed my mood from boredom to wonder, even with that first piece. It took me time to find my voice and to find source material that spoke to me, but then that’s the fun part about sourcing: you find it in your travels and everywhere you go.

Michael Hentz utilizes pop culture and archival images to create mythical portraits and propose new architectural dimensions in the forms of collage and mixed media. His selection of images ranges from ruins, landscapes, and emblems of forgotten cultures, to gemstones and vintage representations of the female body.

Michael Hentz was born in 1977 in Syracuse, New York. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California.
